The Challenge

One of the world’s leading industrial manufacturers – a rapidly growing, geographically-dispersed organization with a diverse set of products – was seeking to modernize its data center operations to increase efficiency and improve the quality of business output.

The company had completed an upgrade to its JD Edwards ERP system and migration to Microsoft Windows.

However, an interim standalone “point” scheduling tool required workarounds and scripting to schedule processes external to the system. Hands-on staff were required to ensure that the data processing steps in each individual application ran smoothly and on time.  Exception scheduling around holidays and alerting were not supported. End-of-day processing, including invoicing, wasn’t reliable.

An especially acute pain point was invoicing. More often than not, orders couldn’t be compared against contracts within the invoicing time window, so invoices frequently didn’t reflect special pricing and discounts. As a result, an overabundance of credits were being issued.
